National Dog Day - 18 Shops That Can Make It Extra Special!

With National Dog Day around the corner, we figure it’s a good time to spoil the pups a bit more than usual. Here are some ideas for awesome pup swag and nomz, all compliments of small businesses!

Attire (sometimes more!)

pawties

Want to copy some of Barak and SoomSoom’s favorite looks? Well, this is your chance! Pawties makes some of hoomom’s Barak and SoomSoom’s favorite bandanas and bowties! It is rare that a weekend goes by without the pups sporting one of these stylish pieces out on the town. BONUS: Pawties has started selling leashes, collars, and harnesses - everything for the pup who needs to match everywhere!

You might have a favorite shirt, right? You’ll go back to that shirt as often as possible and loath the day when it’s in the laundry. Well, Barak and SoomSoom are like that with their Takeabowoo pieces. Hoomom They just love throwing on a crisp Takeabowooo Sailor Bow or Bandana (they especially like to match) for their trip to the coffee shop with the pawrents. SPECIAL OCCASION ALERT: Hoomom Barak and SoomSoom love to celebrate their birthdays with Takeabowooo’s AMAZING barkday hats, too! They’re the CUTEST!

WixomsWhimsies

A SoCal-based shop, Wixom’s Whimsies has bandanas, scarves, collar floral accessories, collars, bows, and more! They also have plants and goodies for humans, so you can spoil yourself a bit while you’re at it. To top it all off, they’re super eco-friendly, shipping everything in recycled and recyclable packaging!

muttcloth

Featuring designer and vintage fabrics, Mutt Cloth bandanas are handcrafted in NY. They have awesome collections of prints that are unique and would look gorgeous on any pup!

urbanhound

This Missouri-based shop sells gorgeous bandanas! Something about all of their prints makes us feel cozy and warm! They also sell some other products, like placements for pet food bowls and a poop bag holder.

leshoob

You know the feeling you get when you show up to work in a new outfit that you know looks good? Well, you can give your pup the same feeling with any one of Le Shoob’s sporty products. As an added bonus, they offer a rescue line which donates 20% of each purchase to organizations helping to save pups who just need a second chance!

woofoutwest

If you’re like us, you’ve increasingly found your closet filled with bold prints, bright colors, and comfy sweatshirts. Why deny your pup the same joyful, hip style? With Woof our West your pup will be all set to apply for a job at the hippest tech company in town or order a puppuccino at the hippest coffee shop in the neighborhood.

howlpot

Looking at Howl’s Pots beautiful designs makes me wish it were fall. A crisp breeze, leaves turning color, maybe even a light frost on the ground would be the perfect setting for Barak and SoomSoom to get dressed up in a chic sweater from this Seoul-based company. They’re perfect for a strut around the neighborhood before a snuggle in one of Howl’s Howly beds (if they made a human version, I’d also give it a shot)!

Other Accessories

treatteek

We’re biased, but we think our TreatTeek treat pouches are pretty great for pups and pup-pawrents! If you’re anything like us, you’ve had the experience of trying to pull treats out of a plastic bag, dropping it, and then winding up with your treats scattered across the sidewalk and your dog frantically yanking you this way and that as they rush to vacuum them all up. So, if you want to get away from this unfortunate occurrence, TreatTeek is for you! It also means fewer plastic baggies, easier treat access, and a far more stylish way to treat your pup!

greentrout

If you’re like Barak and SoomSoom, you might be disappointed that Green Trout Outfitters doesn’t sell delicious fishy noms as the name might suggest. DON’T DESPAIR!! They sell amazing, rugged leashes that will keep up with all of the adventures you and your pup take! And there is more: they donate a tree to the National Forest Foundation for each leash purchased! Go buy a leash and plant a tree!

ruffrescuegear

We feel like our pups carry us through our daily lives with their love and support. Unfortunately, we may need to return the favor sometimes! If you’re on a hike and your pup is struggling or if they’ve recently been injured and can’t get around like normal, you can give them a lift with Ruff Rescue’s carrier harness!

tundra.da

From Switzerland, Tundrada sells beautiful dog tags made from shed reindeer antlers. They’re currently sold out, but keep an eye out for when they’re back in stock because these tags are beautiful and bring a little bit of the wild outdoors to your pup’s collar!

muttruk.png

You, like us, probably take two backpacks when you go for hikes; one pack is for you and one pack is for your dog (actually, if you’re like us, you fit your stuff around your dog’s stuff that takes up two packs). Well, no longer!! MuttRuck makes a hiking backpack that can fit what you and your pup need into one backpack. No more tying that poop bag to the outside of your backpack for the last 3 miles of the hike!

Please, please, please, if you do nothing else after reading this post, check out the browser favicon (the little icon that appears on browser tabs) on MuttRuck’s website. Trust us, it is adorable :)

fablepets

Are you a fan of clean lines and minimalist style? Well, you might have your Allbirds but your pup could be strutting around in one of Fable’s Signature leash and collar sets. For when they’re done showing off their awesome leash fit, they can relax in Fable’s much sought after crates - these look nicer than most of the furniture we have :)

Snacks

nakedbeasts

About half of our freezer space is devoted to Naked Beasts goodies - aside from ice cream, we couldn’t imagine a better use of space. About two years ago we decided to start feeding the pups more raw snacks and a friend recommended Naked Beasts. We’re so glad that we heard about them because their selection is amazing and the pups love everything we’ve given them (with one exception - Barak was scared of his bison ear...but this was extremely amusing for us, so definitely worth it). Some of Barak and SoomSoom’s favorites: shrimps, goat trotters, sardines, duck feet...pretty much everything.

An added bonus: Naked Beasts also has candles, adorable stickers, and regularly donates to amazing causes!

sispetpantry

Check out Si’s Pet Pantry for a great selection of high quality treats and chews. We love using their chews when we’re getting back home from running errands - we’ve learned that the best way to calm Barak down is to send him to his place and have him stay for a yummy treat. Si’s dried treats and chews also make great stuffers for kongs or other brain-teaser toys for your pup! For extra fun, check out their instagram and see if you can spot TreatTeek ;)

rawdynamic

I love raiding my mother’s garden for all of her fresh veggies - for some reason a meal cooked with these purloined goodies just tastes better. Your pup will feel the same way with Raw Dynamic’s natural pet foods. Based in NYC, Raw Dynamic wants to provide a healthy, delicious raw food option to help your pup live their best life.

nammytreats.png

Nammy leaves Barak licking his bowl clean and keeps his 💩 from being too loose. Nammy is Canada based and unfortunately isn’t available in the US, BUT for all of our Canadian friends, you should definitely check out their dehydrated treats and other swag (which is often sold as part of fundraisers for awesome causes)!
